Summary

For simplicity we have selected a ‘straight forward’ from a major broker, who sold in Melbourne Sale 18, season 2011/12. For the purposes of confidentiality we have not shown all the test data, brand etc.

Use the above navigation links to 'follow' the lot through the cost cycle.

As we build the profile of costs we will sumamrise below:

All costs are shown in greasy cents / kg, as this is the terminology used by most growers. The selected sale lot was 19.1 micron fleece lot which sold at auction for 1200 greasy c/kg.

18.33 - AWTA Testing fees

26.32 - broker costs to grower

24.45 - other costs auction to grower

26.50 - broker costs to buyer

19.60 - direct dumping & shipping costs

14.41 - buyer costs for finance, staffing, contract costs, profit etc.

Total costs to date as we build up the profile = 129.61 or more than 10% of gross price at auction.

Or in this case, on a per bale basis, approx. $172 per bale.
